I am often asked what the inspiration was for the development of MPG, Footprint’s exciting new people development process and supporting tool.  Whilst there are many sources of inspiration – personal experience, developing solutions to resolve specific client issues and frustration at current Learning & Development strategy amongst those worthy of a mention – I always remember a conversation I had some years ago with an extremely talented HR Manager I worked with at the time.

Trevor Williams, the trainer was tense. This group of managers he was about to train contained Dave Webster a young manager who many thought was heading to the top. Being new to the job Trevor had never faced him before, but trainers that had said you must get him on your side quickly.

In these hard pushed times, I’ve heard people in many organisations say something along the lines of “Now isn’t the time for navel gazing, we just need to get on with it”. Whilst there may be good intentions behind this statement, it is worthwhile stepping back for a moment for further consideration. Whilst it is undoubtedly true that doing nothing is highly likely to lead to failure, going in the wrong direction.....
